 The origin of the town of Sawmills isn't difficult to figure out, but the town has grown far beyond its beginnings as a lumber mill community. 

Currently, it boasts the county's second highest municipal population and is among the largest in land area.   It enjoys unique positioning on both Lake Rhodhiss and busy U.S. 321, which has made it a popular destination for home builders and buyers. 

The close-knit community is home to the county's largest public school, South Caldwell High School, as well as beautiful farmland, lakeside residential lots alnd communities that are near all of the various conveniences.

Sawmills' many amenities have led to various projects to meet the growing intrerest in the community, as well as future planning to accommodate future residential and possible commercial opportunities.  In 2005, the town started a new park on Lake Rhodhiss that features a walking trail, restrooms, playground, fishing pier and an athletic fields.
